"BFF" is the debut single by American singer-songwriter Slayyyter, featuring Ayesha Erotica. It is the first single and opening track from Slayyyter's self-titled debut mixtape.
The song was released on August 6th, 2018 on all streaming services, followed by an iTunes release on August 9th.[1]
Background[]
The track was originally a demo by Ayesha Erotica that Slayyyter expanded on and sang with her. Ayesha published an IGTV music video for the song on her (now-private) Instagram account @theayeshaerotica.[2]
Slayyyter first began teasing the song on her Instagram by sharing snippets and posting pictures captioned "bff".[3][4] The song was later released on August 6th, 2018, with Slayyyter captioning her Instagram post, "collaborating with miss @theayeshaerotica was so fun, go listen to BFF! link in my bio<3".[5]
Slayyyter talked about the song in an interview with The Fader, stating, "I started making music in high school but it was so bad. It wasn't until last month. I hit up Ayesha Erotica, she's a producer and she's so good. I was like, "Do you want to make a song?" and she sent me the beat to "BFF." I've been making music for a while but that's all deleted now".[6]
On May 21st, 2019, a 34-second snippet of the demo's chorus with only Ayesha's vocals had leaked.[7]
Critical Reception[]
Reception from fans at the time was fairly positive, with many being excited for her collaboration with Ayesha Erotica. Reception from critics wasn't given until later on, when Slayyyter began garnering more and more attention. The Fader said that the track "sounds like Charli XCX on whippets", and described it as "dark and fast electronic pop that belongs in gay clubs and nowhere really else".[8]
PAPER Magazine described the song as a "salty, sassier 2018 sequel to the theme song of Paris Hilton's My New BFF, sung with disaffected sweetness by the show's star, Paris Hilton".[9]
Later on in 2019, StudyBreaks praised the track, calling it "a high-energy pop banger that will have you speeding on the closest highway with your 'super sexy little BFF!'", and stated, "It's a club anthem for girls and gays everywhere, who appreciate a thumping bass and breathy Britney vocals".[10]

"BFF" has gone through multiple cover art changes. When it was first released, Slayyyter had the cover art set as the one that can be seen now on SoundCloud.[11] On RateYourMusic it had a light pink, more simplistic cover artwork.[12] Eventually, the cover art was reworked by Glitchmood, which can be seen across iTunes and all streaming platforms.
The final version features two best friend necklaces, each having half a heart as the charm; one half has an "s" (standing for Slayyyter) and the other has an "a" (standing for Ayesha).[1]
On August 15th, 2021, Glitchmood made a remake of the official cover.[1]
